In District 4, Councilman Bob Doherty will face a unique challenge in which he will square off against Debra Lockrow in a Democratic primary in September but also face her again because the enrolled Democrat is endorsed by the Republicans.
Councilman Ken Zalewski, D District 5, is running unopposed.
"We searched for several months to recruit candidates who bring a history of community involvement and concern for government to our tickets," Wade said. "We are pleased to also announce between our candidates for county Legislature and Troy City Council that 50 percent of our candidates are women, reflecting the population in Rensselaer County."
In the district races, Suzanne Scales, former president of the Highpointe Association, will be squaring off against Gordon in District 1, Anastasia Camay Robertson is running against Republican Kimberly Mazor in District 2 and Councilman Dean Bodnar, R District 3, will face a challenge by former City Clerk Michele DeLair.
Councilman Gary Galuski, D District 6, will not only be challenged by Republican candidate Manny Ned, a county investigator for the Department of Social Services, but will also face a primary by Emily Rossier, an enrolled Democrat.
Incumbent Minority Leader Peter Grimm will be running for re election along with incumbent Legislators Edward F. Manny, Mark Fleming, Gary Pavlic and Cynthia Doran. Len Welcome will run for the seat held by Kathleen Cassidy, who is not seeking re election. Louis Schneider was on the initial petition to run in Cassidy's spot but dropped out.
Majority of candidates named for Troy City Council
Rensselaer County Democratic Party Chairman Thomas Wade said his party's list was filed on Wednesday with the county Board of Elections, adding that some changes were made to the original slate of candidates running for county Legislature.
