When police went to arrest Vertefeuille, Cooney said that he nearly attempted to jump a fence and flee before officers ordered him to stay in place. The suspect complied and placed his hands behind his back to be handcuffed.

Vertefeuille who has been charged with third degree burglary and fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, is expected to face additional charges. Cooney said he is being held overnight and will be arraigned in Troy Police Court tomorrow morning.

After developing additional information about the case, police served a second search warrant at Capital Cash, a pawn shop on Third Street Thursday afternoon, where they said they Prada Bags Navy Blue also recovered a large amount of stolen sports materials.
Cooney said the owner of the shop, to his credit, cooperated fully with the warrant. The materials were taken and identified as stolen.
Earlier this year, Troy Police received a tip from the owner of a local scrap metal yard after a subject exchanged a substantial amount of copper wire for cash. After further investigation, it was found that the wire had been stolen from a National Grid facility in South Troy. Using footage from the scrap yard's surveillance camera, police were able identify the individual who had turned in the stolen copper. Police later developed information which led them to multiple suspects who may have been responsible for not only stealing additional metal, but also numerous thefts from a local residence.
On Wednesday, police executed the first search warrant at 1708 Highland Ave. where they discovered Bobby Joe Dayton to be in possession of thousands of dollars worth of stolen sports memorabilia. Dayton was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree. He was released on an appearance ticket and arraigned in Troy Police Court Thursday morning.

Capt. John Cooney, one was arrested Wednesday, while the other, considered to be the main suspect in the case, was arrested Friday afternoon.
Cooney said police have filled two pickup trucks with a copious amount of sports memorabilia, including boxing gloves signed by Muhammad Ali, a baseball bat signed by Willie Mays, and dozens of autographed baseball cards. There are still thousands of materials in the house.
Police returned to 1708 Highland Avenue Friday, to execute the third search warrant, as they believed more copper and metal scraps were in the backyard. Upon arrival, police found their main suspect, William Vertefeuille Jr., in the process of unloading more stolen sports memorabilia from a truck.
"I know that when we arrived with a warrant, he was cooperative and turned over property in excess of what could potentially be gained through a warrant," Cooney said.
